Last week we added a feature that's been on our to-do list for a long time: box scores for all the sports we cover. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's a small step toward exposing as much information as possible. Each sport's box score includes a few pieces of valuable info you won't find in your typical ESPN report.
In an ESPN Insider article published Tuesday, TR's Austin Link laid out evidence in support of the claim that LeBron James is the best NBA player since Michael Jordan, despite LeBron's big fat zero in the most important statistic of all: championship rings. Reactions from commenters were mixed, but those of Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless weren't.
A few months ago, Doug VanDerwerken predicted that the NBA lockout would NOT increase injury rates over the course of the season. The data shows that he may have been right, but that injury severity may have increased instead.
Derrick Rose's ACL tear is a serious detriment to the Chicago Bulls title hopes, but even without him they still could win a title. Running our playoff projections without Derrick Rose shows that the Bulls drop from a juggernaut to a dark horse. But a dark horse that still has a chance!
Version 2.0 of our NFL projections are here! These use info on projected starting quarterbacks and the 2012 NFL draft to improve our preseason ratings. From there, we simulate the schedule thousands of times to predict win totals and playoff odds every NFL team.
The NBA Playoff seeding was set last night, with the Chicago Bulls clinching home court advantage throughout the playoffs, and both Memphis and Atlanta securing a home playoff series in round one. Today is the only day of rest, with the playoffs getting underway Saturday afternoon. That means it's time to get our official 2012 NBA playoff predictions recorded here on the blog for posterity. Our champ will surprise you!
As the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs rolled around, we made first round predictions based on a slightly modified version of the power ratings we use for other sports. Those predictions did fairly well, going 1 for 2 on upset predictions. Now that the second round is set, we've re-calculated the ratings and forecast the winner and length of the next four series. We're expecting one higher seed to bite the dust.
