Using Bracket Odds

Team Rankings' bracket odds are calculated by looking at every possible matchup in the tournament. For example, if the West region was slotted to play the Midwest region's champion in the Final Four, a team from the West's bracket odds would be their odds of making the Final Four times the sum of (their odds of beating and Midwest opponent times the odds of that opponent getting to the Final Four out of the Midwest bracket). This way of computing bracket odds has been very effective, and sometimes yields surprising odds in the NCAA Tournament. In many years, the bracket odds of a 6 or 7 seed making the Final Four have been higher than those of a 2 or 3 seed. It may happen again in 2012: look at the odds table above for detail!
